Effect of hypertension on the structure of root canal dentin: A laboratory-based study
Objectives: This study aimed to compare inorganic trace mineral content and collagen-related structural parameters of root canal dentin in hypertensive and healthy individuals. Methods: Extracted teeth from hypertensive and systemically healthy donors were processed to obtain dentin discs. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to analyze trace mineral composition. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) assessed pentosidine levels, collagen cross-linking ratios, and mineral-to-collagen ratios. Statistical comparisons were performed between study groups. Results: Analysis is currently underway and results are awaited. Conclusions: This study is expected to provide novel insights into systemic disease-related alterations in dentin structure, with potential implications for endodontic treatment outcomes.
