Design and validation of a 3D-printed silicone-based positioner for wire composite splints: An in vitro experimental study
Objectives: This study aimed to design and validate a customized 3D-printed silicone positioner to improve accuracy and consistency of wire composite splint placement. Methods: The study was conducted in two phases: device design and experimental validation on artificial tooth models and human cadaveric models. Placement accuracy, composite tag consistency, and clinical handling were compared with conventional splinting techniques. Results: The silicone positioner demonstrated comparable ease of placement and improved wire positioning accuracy. Deviations in composite tag placement were within clinically acceptable limits. Conclusions: The 3D-printed silicone positioner provides a clinically viable adjunct to conventional splinting techniques, improving procedural consistency and placement accuracy.
