Reamer mediated versus hydraulic sinus floor elevation: a randomized control trial

Abstract Purpose: Is to compare between the reamer mediated sinus crestal approach (SCA) kit and maxillary sinus ballon kit elevation technique types of closed maxillary sinus floor elevation with simultaneous dental implant placement both clinically and radiographically. Patients and methods: Periotest device was selected to measure the stability of implants in this study. Out of 18 patients aged from 25 to 65 years who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected. 22 implants placed in a randomized control trial as follows: Ballon group: 11 implants were placed after sinus membrane lifting using Ballon group. SCA group: 11 implants were placed using SCA bur kit. Patients were followed clinically and radiographically by cone beam computed tomography for 12 months. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding stability, plaque index, bleeding on probing, pocket depth and bone density except in marginal bone loss there was a significant difference in favor of SCA kit. Conclusions: Ballon sinus lifting is an innovative surgical technique that elevates the floor sinus safely. In clinical practice of sinus lifting it is often advantageous to use the technique that enhance the rapid healing and maintain the marginal bone loss after load application as the SCA technique.
