Wires to fibres in dentistry – Current trends in dental trauma management

Background: Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) are common; fixation/splinting is essential for healing. Traditional wire/composite splints have limitations. Content / Methods: Overview of evolution from wire splints to fibre-reinforced composite (FRC) splints, including biomechanics, application, advantages and limitations. Results / Discussion: FRC splints offer superior aesthetics, flexibility and patient comfort but are technique sensitive and costlier. Clinical decision should balance biology, ease of use and patient factors. Conclusion: FRCs represent an important trend in dental trauma splinting but require clinician training and case selection.
