Teleorthodontics: Revolutionary dental care

Objectives: To review the clinical applications, technological framework, benefits, and challenges associated with teleorthodontics in contemporary orthodontic practice. Methods: A literature search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2010 and 2024. Keywords included teleorthodontics, teledentistry, remote monitoring, artificial intelligence in orthodontics, and virtual consultations. Clinical outcomes, patient experience, and implementation challenges were analyzed. Results: Teleorthodontic platforms demonstrated diagnostic accuracy comparable to in-clinic evaluations using store-and-forward methods. Remote monitoring improved appointment efficiency, treatment compliance, and access to care in underserved regions. Benefits included reduced travel burden, enhanced patient engagement, and continuity of care during public health emergencies. However, challenges related to data security, imaging quality, regulatory policies, and digital accessibility persisted. Conclusions: Teleorthodontics is transforming orthodontic service delivery by improving accessibility and efficiency. Multidisciplinary collaboration and standardized regulatory frameworks are essential to ensure safe and scalable implementation.
