Correlation between QLF parameters and caries detector dye in differentiating infected and affected dentin: A pilot study
Objectives: To determine threshold values of quantitative light-induced fluorescence parameters (ΔF and ΔR) for differentiating infected dentin from affected dentin using caries detector dye as a reference standard. Methods: Twenty extracted human molars with deep dentinal caries were included. Baseline QLF imaging was performed to record ΔF and ΔR values. Stepwise caries excavation was carried out, followed by application of caries detector dye to categorize dentin as infected or affected. QLF measurements were recorded after each excavation phase. The diagnostic correlation between QLF parameters and dye-based identification was statistically analyzed. Results: Data analysis is currently in progress. Preliminary findings suggest potential threshold values of ΔF and ΔR capable of distinguishing infected dentin from affected dentin. Conclusions: QLF may serve as a reliable non-invasive adjunct for guiding selective caries removal. Establishing diagnostic threshold values could improve clinical precision and preservation of sound dentin.
