First person – Kevin Aguirre-Carvajal
ABSTRACT First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Biology Open, helping researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Kevin Aguirre-Carvajal is first author on ‘ What impact do new homologs have on detecting interdomain horizontal gene transfer in eukaryotes? A reassessment of Katz (2015)’, published in BiO. Kevin is a PhD student in the lab of Dr Vinicio Armijos-Jaramillo at Universidad de Las Américas, Quito, Ecuador, and is pursuing his PhD in collaboration with the Universidade da Coruña, Coruña, Spain, using computational and machine learning approaches to extract biological insights from large-scale genomic data.
