Antioxidant potential and phenolic contents of Ali Ourached date pits: A comparative study of aqueous and methanolic extracts
Date palms are among the most ancient trees recognized by humanity, valued for their tasty fruits and significant economic and cultural relevance in arid places, particularly Algeria. Date pits are regarded as by-products that are frequently discarded or utilized as animal feed. This study examined the phenolic and flavonoid content, together with the antioxidant activity, of the Ali Ourached cultivar. The methanolic extract of Ali Ourached date pits (MEAP) exhibited a substantial concentration of total phenolics and flavonoids, measuring 3.864?0.017 mg GAE/100 g DW and 4.670 ? 0.087 mg QE/100 g DW, respectively. Among the three methods employed to assess antioxidant activity, MEAP exhibited the greatest antioxidant capacity, with an IC50 value of 0.262 ? 0.002 mg/ml in the DPPH assay, an IC50 value of 0.142 ? 0.0008 mg/ml in the ABTS assay, and a concentration of 80.373 ? 2.808 mg/g ascorbic acid at a higher concentration of 0.14 mg/mL.
