GESTURE CONTROL WHEELCHAIR

The Gesture-Controlled Wheelchair is an innovative embedded system designed to enhance mobility and independence for individuals with physical disabilities by replacing traditional joystick or manual controls with intuitive hand gestures. Limited motor coordination or hand strength often restricts the usability of conventional wheelchairs, making gesture-based control a transformative solution in assistive technology. This paper utilizes an accelerometer sensor (such as ADXL335 or ADXL345) to continuously monitor the orientation and tilt of the user’s hand. When the sensor detects directional gestures—forward, backward, left, or right—it sends analog signals to an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The Arduino processes these signals and activates a motor driver (e.g., L298N), which controls the DC motors mounted on the wheelchair frame. This enables real- time movement based on simple hand gestures, eliminating the need for physical exertion or complex interfaces.
