Ribbon: Fast Succinct Static Retrieval and Approximate Membership
Given a set π β U and a function π : π β {0, 1}$^π$ , a static retrieval data structure for π supports queries that return π (π₯) for π₯ β π and an arbitrary value from {0, 1}π for π₯ β U \ π. Retrieval data structures can be used to implement a static approximate membership query (AMQ) data structure, i.e., a Bloom filter alternative, with false positive rate 2$^{βπ}$ . The information-theoretic space lower bound for both tasks is π |π | bits, and here we aim to use space π |π |(1 + π) bits for a small overhead π, including succinct constructions with π = π (1).
