Care Futures and Deserted Subjectivities: Toward a New Ethics of Care in Catherine Malabou and Xavier Emmanuelli's La grande exclusion

Abstract: This article examines Catherine Malabou and Xavier Emmanuelli's overlooked manifesto, La grande exclusion (2009), to theorize care for "deserted subjectivities" outside clinical settings. By analyzing how Emmanuelli's "great exclusion syndrome" intersects with Malabou's "destructive plasticity," the article illuminates the dialogue between the physician and the philosopher, showing how they defend the SAMU Social as a vital mediating structure for social-medical emergencies and offer a speculative methodology that moves beyond social reintegration. Finally, this article concludes by addressing the limitations of the proposed approach while suggesting potential extensions through a speculation on a future of care inspired by Levinasian ethics.
