Micronuclei and sister chromatid exchange in lymphocytes from physicians exposed to ionizing radiation
No significant differences were observed in hematological parameters between the two groups. However, the frequencies of both micronuclei and sister chromatid exchanges were significantly higher in the exposed physicians compared to the unexposed control group. Chronic occupational exposure to ionizing radiation is associated with measurable signs of genomic instability. These findings highlight the necessity of implementing regular biomonitoring programs for exposed medical personnel to detect early genetic alterations and mitigate potential health risks.
