Non‐dysraphic ponto‐medullo‐spinal lipoma in a kitten

Abstract A 6‐month‐old, domestic shorthair cat was presented with a 1‐month history of progressive tetraparesis. Computed tomography of the skull and cranial cervical region revealed a right‐sided, extra‐axial, well‐defined and homogeneous fat‐attenuating mass invading the foramen magnum, extending rostrally to the right pontocerebellar angle and caudally into the cranial cervical region. The lesion caused marked compression and displacement of the adjacent neural structures, as well as substantial obstruction of the foramen magnum. Surgical decompression was suggested but declined by the owner, and the cat was euthanased 3 weeks later due to progressive neurological deterioration. Histopathological examination confirmed an intradural, extra‐axial ponto‐medullo‐spinal lipoma. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first reported case of a non‐dysraphic intracranial‐spinal lipoma in a young cat.
