The EU AI Act: A Story without a Plot?: A Lack of Vision in the Digital AI Omnibus Proposal threatens constitutional AI Governance
The EU AI Act, initially envisioned as a groundbreaking framework for safe and trustworthy artificial intelligence, now faces significant challenges due to the Digital Omnibus proposal. The proposal, introduced in late 2025, waters down the Act's regulatory ambitions, creating uncertainty for businesses, civil society, and governments alike. This results in widespread dissatisfaction among stakeholders and exposed the EU's indecisiveness in a strategically important area. In conclusion, imperfect AI regulation promoting the right design principles is more important than addressing short-sighted concerns about regulatory requirements.
