Agreement Between an Indirect Calorimetric Device and Predictive Energy Equations Among Overweight and Obese Individuals With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This study was a retrospective, cross-sectional review of data from a single medical office comparing resting energy expenditure (REE) derived from predictive energy equations to REE measured by an indirect calorimetry device among individuals with overweight and obesity diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. Bland-Altman plots were used to assess the level of bias between the 2 methods for determining REE. Correlations were assessed using Pearson’s correlation. The Mifflin-St. Jeor equation had less bias than the Harris-Benedict and Owens equations among individuals with OSA. This study was a retrospective analysis of existing data and, therefore, had several limitations.
