Process optimization and reaction dynamics of <scp> MgCO 3 </scp> · <scp> 3H 2 O </scp> prepared by impinging stream co‐precipitation method

Abstract The preparation of MgCO 3 · 3H 2 O whiskers was enhanced by the impinging stream co‐precipitation method. The process of preparation was optimized by the response surface methodology. The synergistic influence of reaction temperature, circulating flow rate, and reactant concentration on the aspect ratio of MgCO 3 · 3H 2 O were analyzed, the interaction of the reaction temperature and the reactant concentration being the most significant, and the optimal conditions of combined optimized responses were obtained (reaction temperature T = 42.4°C, circulating flow rate Q = 467 L/h, and reactant concentration c = 0.242 mol/L). The effects of different reaction temperature, reactant concentration, circulating flow rate, cycle time, and reactant concentration ratio on the reaction rate constant were analyzed based on the reaction dynamics, and the mechanism of temperature dominated reaction and concentration synergistic effect were revealed. The maximum reaction rate constant of the impinging stream reactor was 0.1878s −1 . By analyzing the microstructure of the products, the MgCO 3 · 3H 2 O whiskers prepared under these conditions show a rod‐like morphology, with an average aspect ratio of 20.187, which was 4 times higher than that of the traditional method. This study enriched the dynamics of reactive crystallization processes in the preparation of MgCO 3 · 3H 2 O, and provided a basis for the application of nanoparticle preparation by impinging stream.
