Analysis of acoustic signals generated from mechanical-engineering products using optical information-processing methods

Subject of study. Acoustic signals from mechanical-engineering products are processed using optical–holographic methods to form a projection image on a photodetector. Aim of study. The aim is to develop a device that could create an acoustic portrait of a working mechanical-engineering product based on holographic interferometry. Method. Holographic interferometry is used to analyze the acoustic-signal spectrum of operating mechanical-engineering products. Main results. An optical processor is developed that generates the interference pattern of the full acoustic-signal spectrum (from 0 to ∞Hz) of a working mechanical-engineering product on a photodetector in real time and using a nonlinear element of the form F ( x )= cos ( x )− sin ( x ). After digitization, this spectrum can be used to analyze the acoustic portrait of the operating product. Practical significance. The developed device for analyzing the acoustic portrait of a working mechanical-engineering product can improve the nonselective (nondisassembly) methods of technical diagnostics and can predict the product’s residual service life.

The aim is to develop a device that could create an acoustic portrait of a working mechanical-engineering product based on holographic interferometry. Method.
