Analysing the Operational Performance of Static and Dynamic Charging Solutions and the Sustainability Impact of Drone Enabled Last-Mile Delivery

This research compares the operational performance of static and dynamic charging solutions for drone-enabled last-mile delivery. It also focuses on scalability and societal acceptance. To find efficient and sustainable solution, the combination of literature review, case analysis and survey research was applied. Among all models reviewed, Battery Swapping Systems (BSS), such as Droneport, stood out as the most quick and scalable approach. Due to its short turnaround time and low infrastructure demands it suits best high-density urban zones. To comprehend public opinion, a survey of 114 participants was conducted. The results showed that the end-customer are highly aware of the technology and sustainability factor emerged as a key motivator of support. Nevertheless, overall acceptance is closely related to the concerns about noise, safety and privacy. This paper also promotes scalable drone charging models and offers significant insights for policymakers and service providers about societal perception and readiness concerning urban logistics. The study incorporates a validated survey instrument and cross verifies findings using multiple case analyses and further studies considering the methodological limitations and the need for broader empirical validation in future research are suggested.
