The revival of planning – Digital Product Passports as a legislative artefact
The literature on digital product passports (DPPs) has been mainly conducted outside of legal sciences and, relatedly, often lacking due consideration for what DPPs are and do as a legislative artefact. This implies to recognise that DPPs as per the Ecodesign Regulation are not a simple conveyer of scholarly ideas but they shall be situated with the relevant policy and legislative agendas of the European Union (EU). In that light, this article conducts a legal analysis of DPPs as a legislative artefact to clarify their nature and function, with the goal also to facilitate inter- and cross-disciplinarity in the DPP literature.
