Recent Advances in the Laser‐Based Fabrication and Applications of High‐Entropy Alloy Nanoparticles
ABSTRACT High‐entropy alloys (HEAs) represent a shift in materials science, offering unprecedented compositional and structural flexibility for developing multifunctional nanomaterials. This review comprehensively examines recent advances in laser‐based fabrication techniques and applications of HEA‐NPs. Unlike conventional synthesis methods, pulsed laser ablation in liquids (PLAL), laser fragmentation in liquids (LFL), and laser melting in liquids (LML) offer versatile, green, and scalable approaches for producing compositionally homogeneous, ligand‐free NPs with tunable size, phase structure, and morphology. Critical laser parameters, including pulse duration, fluence, wavelength, beam geometry, and scanning speed, enable precise control over NPs properties, allowing synthesis of both crystalline and metastable amorphous phases. The surrounding medium, target preparation, and substrate selection further modulate NPs structure and elemental distribution. As‐synthesized and post‐processed HEA NPs demonstrate exceptional promise in energy related applications, particularly for oxygen evolution and reduction reactions in water splitting, fuel cells, and battery cathodes. Laser induced surface activation further enhances catalytic performance through controlled modification of surface charge and active site densities. This review presents the recent developments in HEA NP synthesis, characterization, and applications, highlighting how laser‐based approaches enable the rational design of next‐generation nanomaterials for sustainable energy conversion, catalysis, and advanced technologies.
