Midwifery practice in a Ghanaian referral hospital: experiences using magnesium sulphate for women at risk of eclampsia
Midwives require strong clinical skills and a solid knowledge base to safely administer magnesium sulphate, a lifesaving but high-responsibility treatment. Ongoing training is essential but must not replace quality pre-service education, which should focus on practical, competency-based learning. However, systemic challenges, such as limited resources, hinder the effective use of magnesium sulphate. Urgent investment is needed to strengthen midwives' capacity and improve pre-eclampsia outcomes.
