Digital elevation model to 3D-Model presentation at NIAM2026
This article provides a brief insight into how an open-source workflow was developed to download the Copernicus DEM for any region and then convert it into a 3D printable terrain model. The Copernicus DEM - Global and European Digital Elevation Model provides a global elevation model as GeoTIFF. The author explores how the GeoTIFFs can be downloaded for any section and used as a basis for printing the elevation model as a 3D model. The article briefly explains the approach and the selection of technologies, as well as how the scripts were developed.
