Just Transition and Climate Change: Impacts on Labour Relations in Türkiye

As the global effects of climate change intensify, the concept of “just transition” has emerged as a vital framework for addressing its social and economic consequences. It seeks to ensure fairness and equality for workers and communities affected by the shift towards a greener economy. This approach emphasises the need to balance the gradual phase-out of traditional sectors with the creation of new, sustainable employment opportunities while protecting labour rights and promoting decent work and inclusivity. Understanding the relationship between these transformations and employment relations is crucial for designing effective policy interventions, particularly in Türkiye, where climate change significantly influences key economic sectors such as energy, industry, and agriculture. This paper evaluates Türkiye's current status and legal frameworks within the context of EU regulations and ILO principles, exploring solutions through a comparative analysis of international just transition practices.
