Academic Wheel of Privilege by FORRT: A practical introduction
These are the slides for a 45-minute session delivered as part of the 8th Train-the-Trainer program of the Digital Research Academy (TTT Didactics Session #1.2). The session introduces key concepts (privilege, intersectionality, meritocracy) and explores the FORRT Academic Wheel of Privilege (AWoP; Middleton et al., 2026) – originally developed as a tool for determining authorship order – as a practical tool for self-reflection in teaching and training. Other tools and strategies are also briefly introduced. By the end of the session, participants should be able to explain why learners' social location matters in educational settings, describe the AWoP and its original purpose, and critically evaluate it for use in their own contexts.
