The Ontic Constant

(Version 2) This document presents an independent philosophical framework exploring the ontological foundations of existence, time, and cosmological expansion. The paper introduces the concept of the Ontic Constant, a fundamental, eternal, and unchanging reality possessing the intrinsic capacity for excitation. These excitations give rise to the transient, temporal universe, including space, time, matter, and the physical laws governing their interactions. The framework addresses foundational questions such as why something exists rather than nothing, how time and space emerge, the apparent inflationary behaviour of the universe, and the phenomenon commonly referred to as dark energy. The Ontic Constant is proposed as an ontological primitive from which all energetic states and matter arise, offering a conceptual interpretation of cosmological processes without relying on formal mathematical models. This revised version introduces a new section examining recent observational developments in cosmology, particularly the discovery of unexpectedly early and massive galaxies by the James Webb Space Telescope. These observations have raised questions about the rate at which structure formed in the early universe under standard cosmological models. Within the Ontic Constant framework, such phenomena are interpreted not as contradictions of existing physics, but as potentially consistent with a deeper ontological tendency toward structured excitation. The emergence of large-scale cosmic organisation may therefore reflect intrinsic properties of the excitation process, rather than arising solely from stochastic gravitational interactions. This work remains a conceptual and philosophical exploration rather than an empirical or predictive physical theory. It is intended to stimulate discussion at the intersection of metaphysics and cosmology, and may be of interest to scholars in philosophy, theoretical physics, and related fields. The document is archived here as a versioned working paper, providing a verifiable and citable record of the development of the Ontic Constant framework.
