The Evaluation of Newborn Screening Continuity Clinic (NBSCC) Teams in the Conduct of Monthly Cluster Audits
Abstract The Newborn Screening Continuity Clinics (NBSCCs) provide long-term care and management to patients confirmed to have a disorder included in the Philippine expanded newborn screening (ENBS) panel. Monthly cluster audits are conducted among NBSCC teams to ensure that confirmed positive cases endorsed to the NBSCCs are provided prompt and appropriate management. Consent was requested to participate in the survey. Survey forms were distributed to evaluate the conduct of the audits. 80% of the nurses and medical specialists from the first 15 NBSCCs participated in the survey. The results showed that the participants recognize the benefit of cluster audits on patient care. The participants see the presentation of best practices and challenges (54.2%) and interesting cases (29.2%) as parts of the audit having the greatest impact. Collaboration and capacity-building were suggested to enhance patient care through cluster audits.
