Consciousness and the Geometry of Distortion
This paper proposes that consciousness science has overlooked a crucial distinction: the difference between consciousness and the distortion of consciousness. Using ΔS as a candidate formalism, it argues that subjective suffering and rigidity arise when experience is organized around exaggerated self-reference rather than integrative orientation. The paper does not claim to solve consciousness, but to add a missing structural dimension to the debate—one with implications for philosophy, trauma, development, and AI. In short, consciousness cannot be fully understood until it is distinguished from the geometry of its distortion.
