Design and Performance Evaluation of a Dual-Band Microstrip Antenna for IoT Wireless Connectivity

The rapid adoption of wireless communication technologies has become indispensable for supporting the data requirements of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. In this work, a compact microstrip antenna is introduced for use in IoT devices, operating in two frequency ranges: 2.11-3.25 GHz and 3.63-4.09 GHz. With physical dimensions of 35 × 45 × 1.6 mm³, the antenna ensures easy integration with other electronic circuits. The antenna demonstrates resonance at 2.70 GHz in the lower band with 86% efficiency and 2.01 dBi gain, while the upper band resonates at 3.82 GHz, achieving 70% efficiency and 2.25 dBi gain. The design ensures a wide impedance bandwidth and stable radiation patterns, confirming its reliability for wireless communication. The antenna is designed and optimized using CST, and measurements of the fabricated prototype show satisfactory agreement with the simulations. The suggested structure is particularly effective for indoor positioning, smart workplace, and smart home applications, where compactness and efficient wireless connectivity are important.
