Accurate 3D reconstruction of high dynamic range surfaces using binary patterns

High-accuracy reconstruction of high dynamic range (HDR) surfaces remains a challenge in structured light illumination. In this paper, we propose a method using binary patterns that ensures high reconstruction quality in both high- and low-reflectivity regions. First, a binary pattern encoding strategy without defocusing is developed to extract phase information from captured images directly. Second, multiple sets of detection patterns are projected to estimate ideal intensities, and the surface is divided accordingly. Third, saturated pixels in high-reflectivity regions are corrected via polynomial fitting and region classification, while a fringe edge correction method is applied in low-reflectivity regions to improve accuracy. Finally, optimized binary patterns are used to obtain accurate phases. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves robust and accurate 3D reconstruction of HDR surfaces.
