Hypothesis: A Modular Antiviral Entry Blocking Platform Inspired by Natural Blood Group Antigen Resistance
Host genetic variation can influence susceptibility to infection by modifying cell surface molecules used by pathogens for entry. A well-known example is the Duffy antigen receptor whose absence confers resistance to Plasmodium vivax malaria. Inspired by such natural resistance mechanisms, this paper proposes a conceptual antiviral strategy in which engineered molecules act as competitive blockers of viral attachment.
