Cavernous sinus sampling in the diagnosis of Endogenous Cushing syndrome

Endogenous Cushing’s syndrome poses diagnostic challenges due to its diverse etiologies. This study explores the utility of Cavernous Sinus Sampling (CSS) in localizing lesions and differentiating between central and peripheral sources of hypercortisolism. Technical aspects and anatomical considerations are provided. Eleven patients underwent CSS at our center, with successful bilateral catheterization achieved in seven cases. The CSS results indicated tumor localization in most cases, thereby facilitating preoperative planning and subsequent interventions. This research highlights CSS as a viable alternative to Inferior Petrosal Sinus Sampling in Cushing’s syndrome, offering improved visualization of venous anatomy and enhancing diagnostic accuracy by mitigating the risk of false-negative results.
