AI Tutor – Plotting the Way Forward
Dr. Sharon Jones, Dean of the Business School at Northern University of Australia, could look back at her tenure and track record of success at the school over the past three years with much pride and joy. Since Covid-19, student enrolments at the undergraduate Bachelor of Business (BBA) degree had seen an CAGR (compound average growth rate)per year of 10 per cent with overseas student enrolments up 20 per cent annually. At the postgraduate level e.g. Master of Commerce, the CAGR had been 20 per cent per annum with overseas numbers up 30 per cent per year. Nevertheless, despite this impressive growth, there has been an increase in annual operating costs at the School including salaries increasing by 5 per cent per annum and tutorial support increasing by some 20 per cent. Clearly, Dr. Jones needed to be creative and innovative about the possible ways forward. She decided to set up a Working Party of members representing different Departments and administrative functions across the Business School to investigate the potential uses of an AI Tutor. She felt she would likely receive a wide divergence of views. This is a fictitious case study and generally it will be based upon secondary sources.
