Toward Efficient Nest Location in Social Insects with Harmonic Radar

This study explores a novel strategy for the location of insect nests using harmonic radar. Instead of tracking individual insects, we propose to tag and release multiple foragers followed by a grid search to determine their nesting grounds. Using collective tag-return behaviour, this approach enables efficient, scalable nest discovery that lays the groundwork for future experimental validation.

Abstract

This study explores a novel strategy for the location of insect nests using harmonic radar. Instead of tracking individual insects, we propose to tag and release multiple foragers followed by a grid search to determine their nesting grounds. Using collective tag-return behaviour, this approach enables efficient, scalable nest discovery that lays the groundwork for future experimental validation.
