Visibilising water and health insecurity challenges at the margins
Population groups at the margins of societies often live under problematic conditions, excluded from health-promoting services, while being exposed to environmental risks and diseases. Understanding the extent of related risk, and providing assistance through targeted interventions are complicated by the inaccessibility of reliable, up-to-date information and the resulting invisibility of such groups. Several inter- and transdisciplinary research projects will be presented that (i) combine in a novel way social, geographical, medical and technological approaches to (ii) visibilise complex health challenges in marginalised groups, (iii) co-create health-promoting solutions, and (iv) assess and reflect on the feasibility of different methods for improved decision-making. Health challenges addressed include environment, water and health insecurity in ethnic minority and unhoused communities, and climate-sensitive and health-promoting spaces for urban populations in Europe and Africa.
