Understanding Stakeholder Priorities for Advancing WEF in Jordan

This talk presents the findings from an earlier assessment of the Water–Energy–Food (WEF) nexus in Jordan, which is facing severe resource pressures intensified by climate change. Through consultations with representatives from government institutions, academia, the private sector, and civil society, we explored existing practices and identified the principal constraints hindering the operationalisation of the WEF nexus as an integrated planning framework. Stakeholders emphasised seven key requirements: effective data and information exchange, adequate financial resources, cross-sectoral collaboration, inclusive planning processes, clearly defined institutional roles, sustained and coordinated action, and the development of trust within and across organisations. These interlinked factors demonstrate that advancing the WEF nexus in Jordan will necessitate targeted technical interventions and a strong policy commitment. With such efforts, the approach holds significant potential for guiding integrated resource management in Jordan and comparable contexts in the MENA region.
