Marketing Forever

This paper presents an empirical study of consumer incentives to share old photos on social media. Drawing upon foreverism, a novel concept proposed by American philosopher Grafton Tanner, we advance the literature on nostalgia in past-themed consumption. Our findings also have implications for recent theoretical conversations around consumer timework and consumer-driven memorialization.

Abstract

This paper presents an empirical study of consumer incentives to share old photos on social media. Drawing upon foreverism, a novel concept proposed by American philosopher Grafton Tanner, we advance the literature on nostalgia in past-themed consumption. Our findings also have implications for recent theoretical conversations around consumer timework and consumer-driven memorialization.
