Assessment of market attractiveness of battery energy storage systems in Palestine, and nearby countries

This paper examines the market attractiveness of battery energy storage systems in Palestine and compares it to four neighbouring countries which are Jordan, Israel, Iraq, and Turkey. Based on market attractiveness index, key categories of battery energy storage systems’ market are evaluated. This evaluation includes internal industry factors, external industry factors, market potential, and policy and regulatory Overall Market Opportunity Index, Porter's Five-Forces Model, and Porter's Diamond Model to provide a comprehensive assessment. Results indicate that while Palestine demonstrates strengths in electricity access and power quality, its limited renewable energy infrastructure, lack of supportive policies, and underdeveloped energy storage capacity constrain its market attractiveness. Comparatively, Turkey and Israel lead in BESS market potential, supported by robust renewable energy portfolios and favourable policy frameworks. The findings highlight the critical need for targeted investments, enhanced policy support, and infrastructure development to advance Palestine's BESS sector and align it with regional progress.
