The elimination of trachoma in Fiji: lessons for global public health
This commentary highlights Fiji's recent validation by the World Health Organization that, as a country, it has eliminated trachoma as an ophthalmological public health concern. The piece reflects on the strategies that contributed to this achievement, which includes the integration of water, sanitation and hygiene interventions through community engagement and health education for eye health. The commentary also places Fiji's success within the broader global context of neglected tropical diseases. It focuses on the importance of sustainable and equitable approaches to promote their elimination.
