The impact of digital transformation on the construction supply chain

Purpose This study investigates the multidimensional impacts of digital transformation on construction supply chains, focusing on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, transparency, traceability and risk management, while revealing maturity gaps across dimensions. Design/methodology/approach This study develops a Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE)–Cloud evaluation framework and applies a multi-dimensional indicator system to assess digital transformation in construction supply chains. Expert judgments are combined with quantitative analysis to evaluate efficiency, cost, transparency, and risk management. Findings Digital transformation significantly strengthens supply chain capabilities, with efficiency improvement emerging as the primary driver. It also enhances cost-effectiveness, transparency and early warning functions. However, traceability and risk response effectiveness remain less mature, indicating areas requiring further development. Originality/value This study integrates the technology–organization–environment framework with an expert-informed cloud model to evaluate construction supply chain digitalization, offering a novel approach for capturing multidimensional impacts and interactions across technological, organizational and environmental factors. The framework provides both theoretical insights and actionable guidance for enterprises advancing digital transformation.

Design/methodology/approach This study develops a Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE)–Cloud evaluation framework and applies a multi-dimensional indicator system to assess digital transformation in construction supply chains.
