Substance P/Neurokinin-1 receptor signaling exhibits sex-specific regulation of inhibitory transmission in the central amygdala
• SP/NK-1R signaling modulates CeA GABAergic transmission in a sex-dependent manner in drug-naïve mice • Female CeA synapses exhibit strong basal sensitivity to SP/NK-1R signaling • NK-1R antagonism reduces GABA transmission under drug-naïve conditions only in females • Acute ethanol enables SP/NK-1R regulation of GABAergic synapses also in males • Females show higher NK-1R expression in the lateral CeA despite similar SP levels
