Synergistic Thermal Regulation via Integrating Adaptive Thermochromism and High‐Enthalpy Phase Change for Sustainable Cold Chain

ABSTRACT Maintaining thermally stable conditions is essential across human activities and industrial domains. Passive radiative cooling and solar heating technologies offer zero‐energy thermal management solutions, yet integrating self‐adaptive dual‐mode switching within a single coating remains huge challenging. Here we couple thermochromic spectra switching with latent heat controlling to realize advanced self‐regulating thermal management. At elevated temperatures, the coating delivers 91% solar reflectance together with 95% emittance within the atmospheric window. Notably, the coatings achieve an exceptional phase‐change enthalpy of 110 J g −1 synergistically combined a dynamic solar absorptance modulation of 35%, thereby amplifying the thermal regulation capability far beyond traditional radiative materials. Outdoor tests demonstrate temperature reductions of approximately 4°C in summer and around 13°C elevation in winter compared to traditional radiative materials. The coordinated spectral‐thermal control provides pronounced energy‐saving potential for multi‐domain thermal management systems through fully passive operation without external energy input. This capability enables year‐round thermal, global management for perishable food storage and other strict temperature‐control applications, thus providing substantial energy savings and precise climate adaptability.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Maintaining thermally stable conditions is essential across human activities and industrial domains. Passive radiative cooling and solar heating technologies offer zero‐energy thermal management solutions, yet integrating self‐adaptive dual‐mode switching within a single coating remains huge challenging. Here we couple thermochromic spectra switching with latent heat controlling to realize advanced self‐regulating thermal management. At elevated temperatures, the coating delivers 91% solar reflectance together with 95% emittance within the atmospheric window. Notably, the coatings achieve an exceptional phase‐change enthalpy of 110 J g −1 synergistically combined a dynamic solar absorptance modulation of 35%, thereby amplifying the thermal regulation capability far beyond traditional radiative materials. Outdoor tests demonstrate temperature reductions of approximately 4°C in summer and around 13°C elevation in winter compared to traditional radiative materials. The coordinated spectral‐thermal control provides pronounced energy‐saving potential for multi‐domain thermal management systems through fully passive operation without external energy input. This capability enables year‐round thermal, global management for perishable food storage and other strict temperature‐control applications, thus providing substantial energy savings and precise climate adaptability.
