Onderzoek naar de rol van mechanosensoren in skeletale spier massa homeostase en onderhoud
Adult skeletal muscles represent the largest metabolic tissue demonstrating a immense plasticity towards mechanical cues as well as diseases. The translation of a mechanical cue into a biological signal to allow defined adaptations is referred to as mechanotransduction and has gained growing attention to explain healthy and diseased skeletal muscle phenotypes. Mechanosensors control the mechanotransduction machinery during adaptations to loading/unloading and diseases. However, it is not precisely understood how these mechanosensitive proteins control those processes. The aim of this PhD project is to study the role of a defined mechanosensor in adult skeletal muscle adaptations to loading and in diseased conditions.
