A study of the electron spin-polarized states in ZGNR channel invoked through the intermixing of Rashba spin–orbit coupling with Landau levels and the effect of dephasing mechanisms on the edge states for spintronic applications

We investigate the spin-polarized behavior of electrons in zigzag graphene nanoribbons in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling under the quantum Hall regime. The interplay of Rashba coupling strength and Landau levels shows significant changes in edge states, electronic band structures, and spin transport. Also, asymmetry in the band structure arises due to the application of a transverse electric field in the spin-dependent system under the quantum Hall regime. Later, we study the non-coherent transport using dephasing mechanisms involving phase, momentum, and spin relaxation to model realistic devices. The non-coherent scattering processes show the gradual change from a ballistic to a diffusive regime. Also, momentum and spin relaxation show backscattering within the channel, which results in decoherence in the available edge states. Hence, this work can be helpful for spintronic applications, quantum coherence, and device miniaturization.
