Optimization strategies for sustainable flight routes in next-generation hybrid turboprop aircraft
In this paper, an optimization strategy for hybrid turboprop aircraft flight routes is introduced. The hybrid aircraft propulsion is modelled as a combination of a turboprop engine and an electric motor powered by hydrogen fuel cells. A requirements of specific flight route was selected as a case study for this optimization, with the aircraft capable of using a combination of hybrid propulsion sources. The aim is to achieve sustainable propulsion throughout the flight, aligned with a optimization of flight route to find fuel savings outcomes. The process considers weather influences and another constrains that can affect system efficiency, thereby impacting fuel consumption. Furthermore, a time of the flight is assumed as contradictory requirement. The proposed method appears promising for planning sustainable flight routes not only for next-generation turboprop aircraft.
