SHAREN Protocol
The SHAREN Protocol provides a comprehensive and methodologically robust framework for the development of Energy Sharing Solutions (ESS) and Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) within the Mediterranean region, with a particular emphasis on their deployment in historic centres and heritage-protected urban environments. These areas present unique challenges (ranging from strict conservation requirements and dense urban morphology to socioeconomic vulnerability and complex patterns of property ownership) that often hinder the adoption of conventional renewable energy technologies. The protocol therefore offers an integrated approach that reconciles heritage protection with the technical, organisational, and social conditions required for a successful and inclusive energy transition.
