GRAVITY-1200 Theoretical Model and Design Assumptions
This document presents the theoretical model for the GRAVITY-1200, a Tuned Mass Damper designed to eliminate resonance in turntable platters. By coupling a secondary 0.36 kg mass to the main platter, the system effectively splits the primary resonance into two more manageable modes and reduces vibration amplitude by nearly 12 dB. The research demonstrates a significant 40% improvement in vibration decay time (T60), dropping from 410 ms to 235 ms for much cleaner audio playback. Furthermore, the design enhances rotational stability, lowering Wow & Flutter from 0.091% to an estimated 0.074%. Ultimately, the work defines the "ontological clearance" at the platter-damper interface as the key to its superior mechanical performance.
