{HiDyn} Deliverable D4 - Paper on the test and evaluation of algorithms for HDR image generation from LDR images submitted to an open access peer reviewed journal.
Imaging luminance measurement is increasingly used in lighting applications, but the limited dynamic range of camera sensors requires using high dynamic range (HDR) imaging meth-ods for evaluating scenes with large luminance contrasts. This work aims at investigating which parameters of the HDR imaging techniques are the most crucial to produce accurate luminance measurements, using a numerical evaluation. A numerical framework based on digital twins of im-aging systems and synthetics luminance high contrast scenes is used to introduce controlled sys-tematic error sources and quantify their impact on HDR luminance accuracy. The results support the identification of HDR approaches most suitable for producing luminance measurements trace-able to the International System of Units (SI).
