Digitalization in university organisations and reshaping of academic work
Digital technologies are introduced in universities for organisational purposes, in other words, for mainstreaming of management, administration and coordination. Academic personnel apply digital technologies for a variety of tasks and for communication purposes in everyday work practices. This embeddedness of digitalization suggests influence over the work of academic personnel and over the ways of organising it. In the study, the reshaping of the work of academic personnel and its organization with the introduction of digital technologies is studied. Sociological approaches to technology and work and qualitative methodology are applied. The study identifies a reshaping of work, with mainstreaming and standardisation of organisation-specific practices in teaching and administrative and coordinating tasks, increasing digitally mediated communication and a redistribution of administrative and coordinating work, with a related increase in new tasks for academic personnel.
