Geology and Mineralization Characteristics of Manganese, Chromium, Titanium, and Vanadium Deposits in Mongolia
This study describes the occurrence characteristics and metallogenic controls of four key critical metals-manganese, chromium, titanium, and vanadium-in Mongolia.Mongolia is located on a Neoproterozoic-Mesozoic mosaic orogenic belt, where complex subduction-accretion processes have generated diverse magmatic and sedimentary environments favorable for strategic mineralization.Manganese occurs mainly as volcanogenic and chemical sedimentary deposits, chromium as podiform deposits in ultramafic bodies within ophiolites, titanium in mafic-ultramafic intrusive complexes through magmatic differentiation and hydrothermal alteration, and vanadium as chemically precipitated deposits in chert and organic-rich shale.Sediment-hosted Mn-V deposits require detailed stratigraphic and structural analysis, whereas magmatic Cr-Ti deposits demand focused investigation of ophiolite belts and intrusive complexes.Newly compiled 1:50,000 geological maps and 1:200,000 airborne geophysical data will be integrated to delineate new targets, supporting stable rare-metal supply for high-tech industries, informing national-level resource strategies, and strengthening long-term cooperation with Mongolia on strategic mineral exploration.
