Investigation of the Relationship Between Anaerobic Power and Shooting Speed in Female Soccer Players

Abstract Shot speed, which is critical for scoring and overall performance in the game, is significantly influenced by anaerobic power. Understanding the impact of anaerobic power on shot speed is essential for optimizing the physical development of athletes. This study aims to examine the relationship between anaerobic power and shot speed in female football players, and to explore the correlations between these variables. The research sample consisted of 24 voluntary female football players from Burdur Gençlik ve Spor Club, participating in the Turkish Football Federation Women’s 3rd League. In data collection, the players’ demographic characteristics, including years of training, years as a licensed athlete, height, body weight, along with measurements for standing long jump, vertical jump, 20-meter sprint, shot speed, and Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT) were recorded. According to the findings, a significant and high positive relationship was observed only between shot speed and vertical jump (r=0.732, p<0.05). No statistically significant relationship was found with other parameters (p>0.05). The results indicate that increases in vertical jump capacity in female soccer players are closely associated with increases in shot speed, and that the development of explosive strength may positively influence shooting performance. Keywords Football, Female football players, Shooting speed, Anaerobic power.
